Users are staff logins. Roles are groups of permissions, such as manager. Permissions are single actions, such as product.create. Give each staff member a role that only allows what they need.
Where to find it
Sidebar → Users & Access → Users / Roles / Permissions
Step by step
- Open Users & Access → Roles to see existing roles (for example admin, manager).
- To make a new role, click + New role.
- Enter a Role slug using lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens (e.g.
store-manager). - Tick the permissions this role needs. Use Toggle group for a whole section, or Select all / Clear.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the form (scroll down if you cannot see it).
- Open Users & Access → Users and click New user to add a staff member and choose their role. Use Edit or Delete to change staff.
- Advanced: Users & Access → Permissions lists all permissions. You can add a custom permission or click Sync catalog.
What each field or button means
| Field / button | What it means |
|---|---|
| Role slug * | Short code name for the role. |
| Permission groups | Address, Analytics, Attribute, Blog and more, each with actions like create, view, update, delete, export. |
Tips
- Do not give staff the owner or admin role unless they truly need it.
- Remove staff logins when someone leaves.
